Getting Settled
UM’s move-in day has come a long way since my daughter moved in freshman year. Gone are the days of endless trips back and forth to the car. The University of Miami now partners with University and Student Services (USS) to provide a convenient and stress-free move-in experience. As the exclusive provider of “Cruise Ship Move-In” on college campuses, USS will bring all your students’ belongings from your car directly to their room. This gives you more time to focus on what’s important, getting them settled in their room.
Once the big event is complete, be prepared for a trip or two to the store for the inevitable forgotten or an overlooked item, like an extension cord long enough to plug in the mini-fridge. I will not get into the emotional goodbyes at the end of the day, but I will say that large sunglasses to cover my watery, red eyes were a life-saver.
Move-In Day varies year to year, for Fall 2019, it begins August 12th. With an assisted move-in process, it is essential to know your students’ assigned date and time. Please note that floor assignments will be available on CaneLink by early June, and specific move-in times will be available by mid-July. Their date is determined by their pre-orientation program participation needs.
