Nature vs Nurture

So much more Nature than you think!

It’s so important to get out into nature. On your first trip to Bloomington will most likely consist of long hours moving into dorms. However, throughout your other visits, you must take advantage of the beautiful scenery Indiana has to offer. Coming from South Florida, I was absolutely awed when it came to the picturesque snow-covered trees in the winter, the vibrant leaves in the spring, and the inviting lakes in the summer. And here’s the thing; it doesn’t only have to be about school sports (although there is nothing wrong with that either.) In four years, you should find the time to check out some of these places too if you really want to get a feel for Bloomington that is.

  • B-Line Trail – This beautiful trail is 3.1 miles that connects downtown Bloomington to various local neighborhoods. This trail is a fabulous way to see the town. Many even rent a Pace bike which is $1 per 15 minutes. I prefer biking this trail because it allows you to see all the hidden gems in Bloomington.
  • Blackwell Horse Camp – If you really want to get down and dirty with nature, I recommend camping out in the Hoosier National Forest. There are over 200 scenic trails to explore before dozing off next to the campfire. Who doesn’t love ending their night with a s’more sugar rush?
  • Eagle Pointe Golf Club – Who doesn’t love a family golf outing? Take a day to play on this gorgeous golf course with your family any day from 10 AM-4 PM. It is recommended to book the time you will play golf online. After a nice win, go visit their Pub and Bistro for some delectable food.
  • Most High Adventures Outfitters – Canoes, Kayaks, and Bikes, oh my! If you really want to explore nature, I definitely recommend picking one of the many adventures Most High Adventures Outfitters has to offer. You can go for half a day or a full day if you are up for it. Kayak and mountain biking 4-hour trips are also offered for $75 a person and it is a great way to have some fun.
  • Paradise Rental Boats – Pack up your charcuterie board and get ready to watch the best sunset of your life. Renting out a Pontoon boat to go float around Lake Monroe is my idea of a great day with family and friends. Boat reservations can easily be made online and are definitely worth it! Check out the boating specials of the day.

Students come to love Bloomington and IU. Let’s face it; Bloomington is now their home away from home.  Plan to enjoy free time with your students making memories of this special time.
