Here’s What You Need to Know About Campus Living
You can certainly read about the dorms and where to live on campus on the UGA Housing pages, but we asked our interns for the inside scoop…which is probably what you really want to know before you choose where to live when you become a Bulldog. Here’s what they had to say:
There are 22 dorms and living options at UGA. Two dorms are female only, as all of the others are coed. Some have restricted visiting hours, while others have visiting hours 24/7. The dorms are arranged into 9 communities. The dorms designated for first-year students only are Boggs, Brumby, Church, Creswell, Hill, Lipscomb, Mell, Morris, and Russell Halls.
Made up of six different halls in the heart of campus and at the bottom of the hill. Five are traditional-style (Boggs, Church, Hill, Mell, & Lipscomb Halls) with shared rooms and common floor bathrooms. The other, Oglethorpe, is a suite-style hall with en-suite bathrooms.
These are older dorms, considered the “low rises” because they only have four floors but are in the best location. Bolton and Oglethorpe dining halls are close by. The traditional halls are slightly bigger, with a sink in the room.
Five apartment-style housing halls with kitchens and living rooms fully furnished. Popular with athletes and near Ramsey Fitness Center, the intramural fields, and Joe Frank Harris Commons dining hall. All coed with 24/7 visitation allowed. Kind of far from the heart of campus. Open during breaks. Includes Building 1516, Busbee, McWhorter, Rooker, and Vandiver Halls.
Brumby Hall is one of the most popular dorm choices for incoming Freshmen since it is the most newly renovated dorm building, complete with a full interior renovation that includes student rooms, community bathrooms, the main floor, lobby, and study spaces. It is the largest high-rise and is right next to Russell Hall.
Creswell Hall is a popular dorm choice as it’s very social. Shares a crosswalk with Russell. Traditional housing with community bathrooms and coed housing. They are known as the “high rises” because of their many floors.
Includes Mary Lyndon, Myers, Rutherford, and Soule Halls.
Houses the Honors College students, French and Spanish Language Communities, and the Franklin Residential College. Near Snelling and Oglethorpe dining halls. Close to Sanford Stadium. Soule is the oldest dorm at UGA and houses upperclassmen and women.
Includes Payne and Reed Hall. Open year-round. Near the center of campus, Reed Quadrangle is a popular place to hang out. Close to the Fine Arts building, School of Law, and College of Business. Adjacent to East Campus Village.
Russell Hall is another “high-rise” dorm and probably one of the most popular dorms. Recently renovated and new amenities, free tutoring in the lobby, nice study rooms, and a marketplace on the bottom floor. Rooms come with a mini-fridge and microwave. The housing office is located here.
Health Science Campus Community
Includes Brown, Kenney, and McGowan Road Halls, about two miles from the main campus, and houses graduate and medical students. This housing has to buss to and from the main campus to make it easier for students to go back and forth between the two.
These apartments are available to graduate students and undergraduate students with families. Includes University Village, Rogers Road, and Brandon Oaks. Have a park and playground. Open year-round, including breaks. Click here to see pictures, videos, and specs of each dorm.
