Get Ready For the Big Game With These Attire Tips!
The best feeling for any college student, particularly if you’re a Terp, is waking up knowing it’s gameday. There is so much preparation that goes into game days: where to tailgate, who to squad up with, and most importantly what to wear. Showing up to tailgates and games is more than just rocking red, white, black, and gold; it’s showing your school spirit and how much you love your school. It almost feels like a school-wide competition: who can get the most spirited? With this list, you’ll be sure to place first.
It is important that whenever you are shopping for game day attire, you look strictly for your school colors. You don’t want to stick out like a sore thumb wearing the one color that doesn’t match with anyone else. The best part about UMD’s school colors is that it is the only NCAA school to have four official school colors, so you have plenty of color choices when it comes to game day! As the game day gets closer, UMD will announce what colors students are expected to wear. For example, they may announce that a game will have a “black-out” or a “red and white-out”. This means that you should wear a black or red and white outfit!
When planning an outfit, you can choose to go all out or keep it sweet and simple. If you are on a budget, then definitely stick with the basics: plain colored tank or tube tops and fun t-shirts that rep UMD. Denim is a great move for game days. If it’s the early fall, go for some ripped jean shorts or overalls from American Eagle. If it’s getting closer to winter I suggest either cool mom jeans or some fun joggers from Missguided. Another way to spice up your game day outfit is to accessorize! Fun ways to do so are adding face stickers, headbands, and fun socks to your outfit. Wearing colorful, tinted sunglasses has been really popular, so get a pair that sports your school colors!
T-shirts are an essential game day piece, so make sure yours makes a statement. A fun way to save money and make something unique is by DIY cut up t-shirts. You can turn any plain, boring t-short into something new like a crop top, tank top, halter, and more! The options are endless and always make an outfit. Before you ruin a shirt, make sure you plan out what you’re going to do and look up videos on how to do it yourself.
If you want to leave the game day attire in the hands of professionals, we recommend TailgateTailor. They have the coolest sweatpants, t-shirts, and hoodies that are great for game day. Custom University also has great game day stuff, so make sure you check out their website.
The best way to cheer on your team is to be the cheerleader! Not literally but looking like one helps. Another game day staple is a cheerleading skirt. Cheer skirts go perfect with a cute crop top and is a quick way to be game day ready. If you’re feeling more like a team player than a cheerleader, then we have something for you, too! Wearing your team’s jersey is one of the best ways to show off your love for the team. Girls usually wear an oversized jersey so it even looks like a dress! To top off your look, accessorize with a clear bag from Score Gameday Bags. Use the code HUH15 for a 15% discount. Most stadiums implement a clear bag policy, so why not have a clear bag that still has style?

When it comes to guys, they have it a little easier when it comes to game day attire. Most guys stick to a game day jersey, t-shirt, or tank that rep UMD. Fanatics has it all! To protect from the sun, guys also love a school baseball cap. Regardless of your style, don’t forget sunscreen and lots of water. Game days are long and hot at the beginning of the season, so be sure you stay safe and hydrated.
When it gets later in the semester and starts getting cold, it’s time to switch over to sweatpants and sweatshirts. Another fun way to keep in spirit while staying warm is tailgate leggings!
