UGA has Great Sports Teams
UGA students get into most sporting events for free! Student IDs must be shown to get into baseball, basketball, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, track and field, soccer, and volleyball games. Click here for schedules and events related to sports.
Football
HaveUHeard that the University of Georgia has some of the best football games in college sports? Being a part of the SEC (Southeastern Conference), Georgia plays top schools providing a fantastic atmosphere. With over 90,000 fans in attendance for most games, Georgia football is not just a sport, but a lifestyle. Students must apply for their football tickets but beware; because of UGA’s popularity, if a student does not use their ticket, they are subject to not receiving tickets in the future. If you know that you cannot use a particular ticket, then you need to donate it back to the University. Home games are usually $10-$15 per ticket for students, while away games vary from $80-$140. Most freshmen and most seniors that apply will receive all of the home game tickets, and mostly sophomores and juniors will receive tickets for half of the home games.
Sanford Stadium is famous for its private hedges and along with UGA’s mascot, Uga the bulldog, experiencing a game “between the hedges” is a must. But like most other stadiums across the country, Sanford Stadium has a clear bag policy, and so do both Stegman Coliseum and Foley Field.
UGA’s huge alumni base, local fans, families, and students all start game-day preparations early. Tailgating at UGA is a serious business, and I have never seen such organized, high-tech, and elaborate setups in my life! While attending a game, you must not miss the Dawg Walk. This tradition starts two hours and fifteen minutes before the start of every home game. Along with the cheerleaders and the Redcoat Band, the players are cheered on as they enter the stadium. It’s really fun to be a part of and to see the excitement build.
Non-Student Tickets
I’m not going to sugar-coat it; tickets for home football games are hard to come by. When other teams turn in tickets that they did not use, those individual tickets go on sale first. Once they are gone, they’re gone. StubHub is the official ticket buying and selling site for all UGA sports. This is where you will find season ticket holders selling tickets that they cannot use. There are always scalpers around the stadium looking to sell you tickets, but be careful as some may not be legit.
No matter what sport you are planning on watching, be sure to check out hotel options and availability. They book up fast, so planning ahead is your best bet. If you can’t score a ticket for game day, check out Where to Watch the Bulldogs Play.
Don’t forget your Bulldog gear. For students, check out our blog on Game Day attire. And for us parents, we suggest gameday outfits that may be a tad more your style.
