Transferring to UGA

Better late than never. Transferring requirements.

Some students leave for college unsure of what to find and realize when they get there, it is not the place for them. Perhaps too they never actually went away but had been living at home for their first few years of college and are now ready to go away.  If transferring to UGA and becoming a Dawg is something your student is considering, they can start by checking out the requirements.

Since UGA has multiple campuses, the transfer requirements for each campus are a little different. Regardless, you will be denied transfer admission to UGA if you are attempting to transfer with less than 30 hours of college credit. You are eligible to transfer to the Athens campus for an undergraduate status if you have 30-59 completed transfer hours, graduated from high school at least 12 months prior to your intended enrollment date, completed at least one year of college somewhere else, and have a 3.30+ GPA.

You are eligible for an undergraduate transfer to Athens, Tifton, Griffon, or online if you have 60+ completed hours, graduated from high school at least 12 months prior to your intended enrollment date, completed at least one year of college elsewhere, and have at least a 2.80 GPA. When transferring, you must include official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, study abroad programs, transient student programs, etc.

For international transfer students, you must complete all of the above requirements as well as proof of language proficiency from at least once of the options listed and it must be no more than 5 years old: an official transcript with the equivalent of English 1101 and 1102 (first-year composition) at an accredited U.S. institution with a minimum 2.5 combined GPA, SAT R – EBRW score of 430, SAT I – Critical Reading Score of 430, ACT English section score of 17 or higher, a band score of 6.5 or better on the IELTS, submit a TOEFL score of at least 213 on the computer-based exam, submit a 550 paper-based TOEFL score, or submit an 80 on the internet-based TOEFL.

If your college is outside of the United States and not accredited by a U.S. Regional Association of Colleges and Schools, UGA requires that you use an evaluation service that does a “course by course” evaluation to ensure that your transcript is evaluated properly. If you do not submit this “course by course” evaluation, your application to UGA will be incomplete. These are the approved evaluation services.

The application fee to transfer to UGA is $70 and is nonrefundable… for Spring 2021 transfer students, the application is due on August 15th. The Fall 2021 transfer application dates should be released sometime this fall but are usually due the first week of March, seeing as Fall 2020 transfer applicants have already received their decisions. Upon acceptance, transfer students must attend a Transfer Student Orientation, the date for this will be given to students upon admission.

It is important to remember that UGA transfer admission decisions are made on a space-as-available basis. So, there are neither GPA nor completed credit hour levels that guarantee admission. Additionally, some colleges and departments have limits on the number of students in their programs, so applicants intended major might be a factor in their admission decision.
