Accessibility Accommodations for all Students
For students with a disability, the Disability Resource Center can help. Giving all students accessibility is a priority. Whether it’s ADHD or physical impairment, the University of Georgia provides great care and consideration for providing access to all. The Disability Resource Center (DRC) provides academic accommodations and support to ensure that students with disabilities are able to access and participate in the opportunities available at the University of Georgia.
Information is available to prospective and enrolled students, their parents, or sponsors. The Disability Resource Center (DRC) is located in Clark Howell Hall, which is right next to the Tate Center at the heart of campus. DRC staff can be reached at 706-542-8719 (Voice) or drc@uga.edu (Email). Office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Individuals may email the office staff for quick responses to questions.
Meeting with the DRC office can help to eliminate fears and unanswered questions pertaining to everything from safety to specific accommodations. At UGA, Student Accommodation Guidelines are available for testing, classrooms, interpreting, captioning, housing, transportation, and courses. The DRC is also available to help with temporary accommodations.
The Disability Resource Center requires current and complete documentation to determine reasonable accommodations. This includes, but is not limited to, a student application, a Disability Documentation Form, and an interview. Documentation requirements and guidelines are outlined including instructions on how to submit the documentation.
For students requiring service and emotional animals, they will need to be registered with the DRC. Should students require interpreter services including sign language interpreters, they will also need to register in advance to make certain an interpreter is available if needed. The DRC also offers scholarships specifically available to registered students, which are a great way to offset the cost of UGA.
Encourage your student to take an active part in their accessibility plan. Plan early, meet with professors ahead of time. This way confidence can be had in knowing that the instructors are aware of their needs. Tour the campus and plan routes for assurance. There will always be someone around to help, so don’t hesitate to ask.
